Frenectomy
A frenum is the small fold of tissue that attaches your lip or tongue to the gums. When it is too tight or attached too close to the teeth, it can pull the gums away from the teeth, keep a gap open between the front teeth, or limit tongue movement. A frenectomy releases it.
What to expect
It is a short procedure, usually 20 to 30 minutes under local anesthetic. Most people are comfortable the same day and back to normal within a few days.
Questions we hear often
Do you treat children?
We see children for frenectomy when it's affecting the gums or teeth. Patients under 18 need a parent or guardian at the consultation.
